How has the fishing been?

Has been fair to fair for the month of August. My anglers are getting into some big rainbows though! From what

Sometimes we have to work hard to get one, but it’s always worth it!

I experience on the river daily just this month, my guests are averaging 3 to 5 big fish hooked up in the 18+ range. They are nice rainbows! And all the 6 to 12inch fish you can handle. So, that’s fair fishing. A great day no matter what!

What’s the best time of day?

Be on the water and in position no later than 7:am. Expect the best fishing through 1:OOPM . Then after that you need to be prepared to work harder and look in sun protected spots, or deeper water for fish. The fish are there. It just seems the river get’s a lot bigger after 1:00 PM. Why? The sun is high and that will force the rainbows into the weeds or into deep water. The wind starts to blow making the casting more challenging.

What’s the best fly?

Still not seeing the Calibaetis that we usually see this time of year. So generic patterns are a good bet. I’ve been using small birds nest, damsel fly nymphs, water boatmen, and midges. That selection right there should get you tight to rainbow trout.

Outlook for September

August did not fail me this year. Most people are staying away do to the heat. So there have been very few boats on the river. Sept kids go back to school and the water does not see a lot of pressure until people start to come in for October. I expect the fishing to stay consistent fair peppered with great days.
