Putting Fall River in your future fishing plans for the new season.
Fishing on Baum Lake has been good so far this winter, and I have enjoyed the time spent out there so far. I can’t stop thinking about the up and coming trout season on Fall River and other Northern CA waters. Conditions so far this winter have been extremely favorable for a good opener at the end of April. Now is the time to start getting your bookings in for guiding, and lodging. My June is about halfway booked, but May still has a lot of openings so let’s get the calendars out and match some dates. All things being equal the fishing in May can be pretty good. Fish can be a little more forgiving; they are receptive to the swing and can be a bit more aggressive due to the minimal amount of food availability in the winter. August and the first week of September can be the sleeper months on Fall River we catch the bulk of the bigger fish at that time. It is also a time of year when traffic on the river starts to back off a little, so keep that in mind when thinking about booking a trip.
Now is the time to go over your gear and make sure everything is in top working order. It is not a good thing to start a new season with rusty flies or tippet that has set in the sun too long and breaks the fly off every time you strike. So, oil your reels, clean your line and run some turtle wax through the guides on your rods. It makes a difference.

A lot of times after a day of fishing I like to take a ride on my Mt bike. Although there are no dedicated trails in the Fall River area there is plenty of opportunity for some awesome riding. Ask me about options. Also, just over Soldier Mt from here there is a rail to trails. A two-part trail that you can ride from North of Burney to McCloud.
I put a short video clip up on the web page of Fall River in the snow. Go check it out on the page www.artteter.com. I will also be putting short video clips up on the page of some of you fishing and live conditions reports on the river, bugs, what worked that day etc. Maybe even short clips of daily action, hatches, reports. Let me know what you want to see. Ask a question below in the comments and I’ll answer it via the video feed.
Here’s my latest and over the coming year, I will upload more videos that will help you stay informed, plan your next trip with me and maybe take the edge off a rough day at the office.
If you need any help getting started or you have any question about lodging or guiding give me a call, we can catch up while getting some details worked out.
