Fall River Fishing Report: June 7, 2023

Fall River - Fly Fishing

Fall River Fishing Report: Here's the latest update on the fishing conditions at Fall River in California. Overall, the fishing is decent throughout the system, but there are a few factors to consider. One notable issue is that a significant number of fish are still present in Bear Creek. These fish are still spawning or haven't moved back down and into Fall River. This situation affects the overall fish population in Fall River, and some days are better than others for angling … [Read more...]

Fall River Fly Fishing Report: Late September 2019

Fall River - artteter.com

The Fall River has been fishing good all year. It will go through some real changes with the coming of Fall. Be prepared, it could happen over night or it could take a while. When this happens the fishing will change for the better. Right now we are still seeing the small Tan Baetis and if you watch hard you will see some PMDs. It has been a real good year for dry fly fishing so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will keep up.  Top Flies: Soft Hackle PtsLeachesWater … [Read more...]

Upper Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report: Late September 2019

Fall River - artteter.com

I have spent very little time on this river since my last report, so I don’t have much to report on. Typically, August and early September can be tough on these river only because it is so hot out. People don't want to fish the rivers, walking and wading in The middle of summer. For now, expect the fishing to improve. Don't wait in this one. Or the McCloud River (See the McCloud River Reports). When temps start to drop I anticipate good numbers of October Caddis and they should start … [Read more...]

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report: Late September 2019

I have spent very little time on these waters since my last report, so I don’t have much to report on. What I can say is this river can make huge changes for the better in the Fall. When temps start to drop expect good numbers of October Caddis. Should start getting active soon. … [Read more...]

Pit River Fly Fishing Report: Late September 2019

This is a good time of year to be on Pit River as the temps start to drop the fish start to get active a little bit later in the day. Before the flow changes we used to see good numbers of October Caddis and Isonychia. They were pretty much wiped out with the flow changes. Last year I did for the first time since 2011 see a few in the system. But as always I have fished the October Caddis and Isonychia and keep some on hand just for this time of year.  Some suggested flies: Birds … [Read more...]

Hat Creek Fishing Report: Late September 2019

Hat Creek is still doing pretty good. I had a couple of folks down below the 299 bridge down to the barrier the other day. We picked up some nice fish throwing a cinnamon caddis with an October caddis pupa under it. With the cooler temperatures coming on, the time of day to fish is going to change daily. So, it is always best to check a reliable weather report. Conditions dictate how we fish, we are in a transitional stage so, conditions will be changing.   Also check out the blog on my web page … [Read more...]

Fall River Fly Fishing - Art Teter

The Fall river is still fishing well despite the heat. Boat traffic has been light and the other day I was the only boat in the area I was fishing. The fish however are very boat shy right now due to the extremely clear water and lots of sun light. So, it is best to get on the upstream side of them and then let them settle down a little before fishing to them. There has been a good tan Baetis hatch going on mid-morning. Fish are spread out through out the river. Best fishing seams to be … [Read more...]

Art Teter - Fall River Fly Fishing

It's the dog-days of summer. Fishing is going to be best early before the sun is high and temperatures are hot, then again at or near sundown. Looking towards September for better reports. All said, there's no reason why you can't get out on this river, stick a few fish and enjoy wet wading. Better fishing is found on Fall River, the Pit River, McCloud, Hat Creek. Check out my blog for the latest is tips, tricks and ways to improve your fly fishing. … [Read more...]

McCloud River Fishing Report: August 2019

brown trout art teter guide service

Not a lot to report on here. In full summertime mode. Fish are digging in and staying dug in until early morning and evening. The temperature has been in the low 90s to over 100 degrees. Fishing during the day has been hard. Last trip out on the McCloud I did well on a articulated leach fished on a 200 grain sink tip in some of the deeper water. Still seeing a good number of stone flies. Better fishing ahead in September through mid November. You'll find similar report for … [Read more...]

Pit River Fishing Report: August 2019

Art Teter - Fall River Fly Fishing

The weekend of August 10th & 11th the flows were raised to 1500 cfs for white water recreation. After the flows were brought back down the fishing was a little sketchy. But things are back to normal now and the fishing is good. This river at this time of year can follow the pleasant time of day theory. If its pleasant for you to be on the water then its pleasant for the fish to be active. If you find you are hooking a lot of squaw fishing and sucker fish, you are more than likely in to … [Read more...]
