Fall River Fly Fishing Report: Late September 2019
The Fall River has been fishing good all year. It will go through some real changes with the coming of Fall. Be prepared, it could happen over night or it could take a while. When this happens the fishing will change for the better. Right now we are still seeing the small Tan Baetis and if you watch hard you will see some PMDs. I have spent very little time on this river since my last report, so I don’t have much to report on. Typically, August and early September can be tough on these river only because it is so hot out. Pit River Fly Fishing Report: Late September 2019
This is a good time of year to be on Pit River as the temps start to drop the fish start to get active a little bit later in the day. Before the flow changes we used to see good numbers of October Caddis and Isonychia. They were pretty much wiped out with the flow changes. Hat Creek Fishing Report: Late September 2019
Hat Creek is still doing pretty good. I had a couple of folks down below the 299 bridge down to the barrier the other day. We picked up some nice fish throwing a cinnamon caddis with an October caddis pupa under it. With the cooler temperatures coming on, the time of day to fish is going to change daily. Fall River Fishing Report: August 2019
The Fall river is still fishing well despite the heat. Boat traffic has been light and the other day I was the only boat in the area I was fishing.The fish however are very boat shy right now due to the extremely clear water and lots of sun light. So, it is best to get on the upstream side of them and then let them settle down a little before fishing to them. There has been a good tan Baetis hatch going on mid-morning. McCloud River Fishing Report: August 2019
Not a lot to report on here. In full summertime mode.Fish are digging in and staying dug in until early morning and evening.The temperature has been in the low 90s to over 100 degrees.Fishing during the day has been hard.Last trip out on the McCloud I did well on a articulated leach fished on a 200 grain sink tip in some of the deeper water. Pit River Fishing Report: August 2019
The weekend of August 10th & 11th the flows were raised to 1500 cfs for white water recreation. After the flows were brought back down the fishing was a little sketchy. But things are back to normal now and the fishing is good.This river at this time of year can follow the pleasant time of day theory.
